English | ISBN: 1619301997 | 2013 | 128 pages | EPUB | 4 MB
The United States boasts a rich musical diversity. Colonial Americans integrated European traditions with new cultural influences to compose a unique musical identity. African traditions influenced hymns and folk songs that connected people to religion and to the trials and tribulations of everyday life. Patriotic tunes created unity in wartime. America's jazz, blues, rock, and hip-hop continue to evolve from their African-American origins.

Free Download Stephen M. Norris, "Museums of Communism: New Memory Sites in Central and Eastern Europe"
English | ISBN: 0253050308 | 2020 | 442 pages | PDF | 32 MB
How did communities come to terms with the collapse of communism? In order to guide the wider narrative, many former communist countries constructed museums dedicated to chronicling their experiences. Museums of Communism explores the complicated intersection of history, commemoration, and victimization made evident in these museums constructed after 1991. While contributors from a diverse range of fields explore various museums and include nearly 90 photographs, a common denominator emerges: rather than focusing on artifacts and historical documents, these museums often privilege memories and stories. In doing so, the museums shift attention from experiences of guilt or collaboration to narratives of shared victimization under communist rule. As editor Stephen M. Norris demonstrates, these museums are often problematic at best and revisionist at worst. From occupation museums in the Baltic States to memorial museums in Ukraine, former secret police prisons in Romania, and nostalgic museums of everyday life in Russia, the sites considered offer new ways of understanding the challenges of separating memory and myth.

Free Download Phyllis J. Bronson, "Moods, Emotions, and Aging: Hormones and the Mind-Body Connection"
English | ISBN: 1442221011 | 2013 | 156 pages | EPUB | 1489 KB
Despite the backlash against hormone replacement therapy, the depletion of natural hormones in the female body continues to be a problem for women at middle age and beyond. Remedying the problem has proved difficult for women and doctors who are unaware of, or reluctant to prescribe, bioidential hormones-those that match identically the hormones made naturally in the human body. Moods, Emotions, and Aging: Hormones and the Mind Body Connection explains the vital link for women between hormones, mood, and wellness. It outlines the dramatic hormonal shifts that women undergo in the years before menopause, and presents an approach to combining bioidentical hormone therapy with nutrients to achieve mood balance during midlife and beyond. Phyllis Bronson explains the differences between synthetic and bioidentical hormones, and offers vignettes of women who have used bioidentical hormones to help them deal with the changes that accompany natural hormone loss.

Free Download Mobile-Mindful Teaching and Learning: Harnessing the Technology That Students Use Most
English | 2023 | ISBN: 9781003446040 | 180 Pages | True PDF | 11.2 MB
This book provides faculty and instructors with an introductory guide to integrating mobile learning in their courses. Recognizing that a smartphone is the first and main piece of technology anyone owns, with ownership exceeding 95% for those aged 18-29, with a sizable minority of these being smartphone-dependent; and that instructors are relying on technology for teaching and learning more than ever; this book addresses the imperative that course materials and interactions be increasingly available through the technology that students use most often. Dispelling the notion that mobile learning is for the tech-savvy and adventurous, mobile-mindful teaching offers teachers a way to take a few steps at a time, share options with students, and progressively develop ideas and practices.

Free Download Lee Clark Mitchell, "Mere Reading: The Poetics of Wonder in Modern American Novels"
English | ISBN: 1501329650 | 2017 | 280 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Mere Reading argues for a return to the foundations of literary study established nearly a century ago. Following a recent period dominated by symptomatic analyses of fictional texts (new historicist, Marxist, feminist, identity-political), Lee Clark Mitchell joins a burgeoning neo-formalist movement in challenging readers to embrace a rationale for literary criticism that has too long been ignored-a neglect that corresponds, perhaps not coincidentally, to a flight from literature courses themselves.
