Free Download Satellite Communications By Timothy Pratt, Charles W. Bostian, Jeremy E. Allnutt
2003 | 557 Pages | ISBN: 047137007X | PDF | 19 MB
First published in 1986, Satellite Communications is unique in focusing on the principles behind satellite communication systems rather than the encyclopedic range of specific systems. Continued in the completely updated Second Edition, this approach allows students to fully master the concepts that govern how a satellite communication system transfers information. In the Second Edition, a new author, Jeremy Allnut, has joined the team, four new chapters have been added covering important new topics, and many more worked examples are included

Free Download Program Earth: Environmental Sensing Technology and the Making of a Computational Planet By Jennifer Gabrys
2016 | 368 Pages | ISBN: 0816693145 | PDF | 7 MB
Sensors are everywhere. Small, flexible, economical, and computationally powerful, they operate ubiquitously in environments. They compile massive amounts of data, including information about air, water, and climate. Never before has such a volume of environmental data been so broadly collected or so widely available.Grappling with the consequences of wiring our world, Program Earth examines how sensor technologies are programming our environments. As Jennifer Gabrys points out, sensors do not merely record information about an environment. Rather, they generate new environments and environmental relations. At the same time, they give a voice to the entities they monitor: to animals, plants, people, and inanimate objects. This book looks at the ways in which sensors converge with environments to map ecological processes, to track the migration of animals, to check pollutants, to facilitate citizen participation, and to program infrastructure. Through discussing particular instances where sensors are deployed for environmental study and citizen engagement across three areas of environmental sensing, from wild sensing to pollution sensing and urban sensing, Program Earth asks how sensor technologies specifically contribute to new environmental conditions. What are the implications for wiring up environments? How do sensor applications not only program environments, but also program the sorts of citizens and collectives we might become?Program Earth suggests that the sensor-based monitoring of Earth offers the prospect of making new environments not simply as an extension of the human but rather as new "technogeographies" that connect technology, nature, and people.

Free Download Persephone Rises, 1860-1927: Mythography, Gender, and the Creation of a New Spirituality By Margot K. Louis
2009 | 192 Pages | ISBN: 0754664554 | PDF | 5 MB
Over the course of the nineteenth century, the figure of Persephone rapidly evolved from what was essentially a decorative metaphor into a living goddess who embodied the most spiritual aspects of ancient Greek religion. In the first comprehensive survey of the Persephone myth in English and American literature of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Margot Louis explores the transformation of the goddess to provide not only a basis for understanding how the study of ancient history informed the creation of a new spirituality but for comprehending the deep and bitter tensions surrounding gender that interacted with this process. Beginning with an overview of the most influential ancient texts on Persephone and references to Persephone in Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, and Romantic period writing, Louis shows that the earliest theories of matriarchy and patriarchal marriage emerged in the 1860s alongside the first English poems to explore Persephone's story. As scholars began to focus on the chthonic Mystery cults, and particularly on the Eleusinian Mysteries of Demeter and Persephone, poets and novelists explored the divisions between mother and daughter occasioned by patriarchal marriage. Issues of fertility and ritual resonate in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Urbervilles and Willa Cather's My Antonia, while the first advance of a neo-pagan spirituality, as well as early feminist critiques of male mythography and of the Persephone myth, emerge in Modernist poems and fictions from 1908 to 1927. Informed by the latest research and theoretical work on myth, Margot Louis's fascinating study shows the development of Victorian mythography in a new light; offers original takes on Victorian representations of gender and values; exposes how differently male and female Modernists dealt with issues of myth, ritual, and ancient spirituality; and uncovers how deeply the study of ancient spirituality is entwined with controversies about gender.

Free Download Parallel Algorithms and Architectures for DSP Applications by Magdy A. Bayoumi
English | PDF | 1991 | 289 Pages | ISBN : 0792392094 | 24.6 MB
Over the past few years, the demand for high speed Digital Signal Proces sing (DSP) has increased dramatically. New applications in real-time image processing, satellite communications, radar signal processing, pattern recogni tion, and real-time signal detection and estimation require major improvements at several levels; algorithmic, architectural, and implementation. These perfor mance requirements can be achieved by employing parallel processing at all levels. Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) technology supports and provides a good avenue for parallelism. Parallelism offers efficient sohitions to several problems which can arise in VLSI DSP architectures such as: 1. Intermediate data communication and routing: several DSP algorithms, such as FFT, involve excessive data routing and reordering. Parallelism is an efficient mechanism to minimize the silicon cost and speed up the pro cessing time of the intermediate middle stages. 2. Complex DSP applications: the required computation is almost doubled. Parallelism will allow two similar channels processing at the same time. The communication between the two channels has to be minimized. 3. Applicatilm specific systems: this emerging approach should achieve real-time performance in a cost-effective way. 4. Testability and fault tolerance: reliability has become a required feature in most of DSP systems. To achieve such property, the involved time overhead is significant. Parallelism may be the solution to maintain ac ceptable speed performance.

Free Download Operating System Design: The Xinu Approach, Second Edition
English | 2015 | ISBN: 1498712436 | 857 Pages | EPUB (True) | 8 MB
Avoiding the typical black box approach found in other operating system textbooks, this bestselling book explains how to build an operating system from the ground up. It removes the mystery from operating system design and consolidates the body of material into a systematic discipline. The text presents a hierarchical design paradigm that organizes major operating system components in an orderly, understandable manner. This second edition has been completely rewritten with updated code throughout and examples for two low-cost experimenter boards.
