Description
Students in this programme are guided in the development of a mentoring programme that is applicable to all situations (private sector, government sector, non-profit, community development.)This course is a step-by-step course from design to evaluation that provides information on the types of mentoring, how to identify potential mentors and mentees, the design of the intake and program cycle, as well as the identification of supporting resources to help the mentors and mentees.Not all types of mentoring are the same or are appropriate for the desired outcomes. Students will learn each type of mentoring's strengths and weaknesses and which situations are best suited for which type of mentoring.Students will learn about SMART goals and how to apply them to the programme, the mentors, and the mentees. Participants will learn how to match mentors and mentees and how to provide appropriate support for more vulnerable or isolated individuals.Students will learn how to identify what training needs are required prior to and during the programme implementation, as well as how to decide how structured or not a programme is.Participants will have five assignments which form the basis of their programme development.This course is intended for individuals who have never organised a mentoring programme. Individuals who have organised a previous mentoring programme will also benefit from this course as it provides a strong conceptual overview of what factors need to be considered when building or revamping a mentoring programme.
