Description
No matter your opinion on the subject of violence in America, we can all agree that we want to keep ourselves and our children safe. Retired U.S. Marine Becca Spahr presents "Surviving a School Shooting" because no one should feel helpless when confronted with an emergency like an active shooter.Unlike other active shooter survival courses, this course is designed to equip middle- and high-schoolers, college students, educators, and their parents, and focuses on active shooter situations that happen in schools. We begin with a look inside the mind of a school shooter, exploring their social history, behavior, and actions that may indicate they are planning an attack. Then, we'll discuss the mental and physical preparation you can take to be prepared to react to an active shooter attack, including developing a survivor mindset and proactively identifying escape routes. As we learn about shooter methods, students will understand the steps an attacker takes in planning an attack, the tactics they may use, and the weapons and equipment they may employ. Sound clips and pictures will enable students to identify the types of weapons being used in an attack so they can determine the best way to react and report. We'll review some basic concepts of personal safety, identify immediate actions to take as soon as an attack begins, and outline the Run/Hide/Fight protocol. Once the attack is over, the lives of victims have changed, so we also look at the events and emotions that may happen in the aftermath of an attack. Our final lecture is specifically aimed at educators and how they can prepare their schools and classrooms, but will certainly be helpful for anyone to view. This course was developed by Becca Spahr, founder and CEO of The Likable Leader Coaching. Becca is a retired U.S. Marine Lieutenant Colonel, a certified Anti-Terrorism Force Protection Officer, and a Combat Life Saver. The course informs students of best practices to improve the odds of survival in an active shooter situation.
