Texture rubbing is a great beginner art project because it allows students to explore basic artistic techniques, such as observation, pattern-making, and shading, while using simple materials like crayons or pencils to capture the textures of everyday objects, fostering both creativity and confidence in their artistic abilities.

Description


Explore your creativity and expand your printmaking skills with these step-by-step texture rubbing techniques! We'll be focusing on modern layouts and color schemes that you can achieve with simple supplies – this is part of what makes printmaking so accessible!I am a Printmaker, Painter and Art Educator with over 20 years of experience and I want to share my love of creating with you!This class is appropriate for beginners and a great throwback for advanced artists. Texture Rubbing is one of the earliest forms of printmaking!Each of these artworks will be a monoprint. Monoprinting is a form of printmaking that has lines or images that can only be made once, unlike most printmaking, where there are multiple originals.In the first instructional video - I will show you how to make and create your own rubbing or texture plates. Then we will practice together to find the color choices and textures that we like the most. We will then do some measuring to layout equal sections on our papers (I know some are leery of measuring, but don't worry I will make it simple for you!). Then on to creating 3 different sized artworks, an extra piece and signing and matting your artwork!All of your finished artworks will be appropriate for displaying in your home or gifting to family and friends!I Can't Wait To Create With You!Your project is to create 3 finished artworks! And an extra one!Using handmade or store bought rubbing(texture) plates, join me in creating 3 finished art pieces. A 5x7, an 8x10 and an 11x14 - using different textures and different color layouts.Materials:PencilEraserRulerCopy paperCardstock paper or an old manila file folderDrawing paper 90# or lessHandmade (video instructions included!) or store bought texture platesColored Pencils or Colored Pencil sticksAcrylic Paint Pen or other Permanent MarkerOptional Matting materials - Matts and acid free tapeWatch the "Supplies" video and set up your workspace with everything you need. Then, watch each video and follow along at your own pace. I'd recommend watching each video first, then practicing the skills that I introduced in that lesson.I can't wait to see what you create!
